Personal Training
Somatic focused functional fitness…
Personal training is relational. Before any exercise, theory, or program can be useful, we have to develop enough trust to work together: you have to trust me, and I have to trust you. As we go, we can build a fitness practice that responds to your body, your interests, your goals, and what emerges through our work together.
My approach integrates functional fitness, strength training, somatic practice, and an ecological approach to movement. We might lift sandbags and kettlebells, practice calisthenics, crawl or flow, get up and down from the floor, or explore other ways of moving that support the things you want to do outside the gym.
Build strength that supports the activities you love or want to do outside the gym
Explore ways of moving through and with pain, injury, or physical limitations
Adapt your movement practice through major life changes, including gender transition, surgery, grief, menopause, aging, or other shifts in how you experience your body
Bring somatic and embodiment practices into your fitness practice
Train without making weight-loss or aesthetic change the goal
Begin from wherever you are, whether you’re brand new to fitness or a longtime athlete
Learn to lift heavy things, practice bodyweight skills, explore mobility, or cross-train for a specific activity

“I was scared to get back into movement after doing a lot of work in ED recovery. I wanted to learn how to move without it being all about weight-loss.”
“When I decided to start a movement practice, I was recovering from knee surgery. My biggest fear was bordom, but the sessions are NEVER boring. ”
“I was looking for a trainer who was trauma informed and who would help me pace myself.”
How does it work?
Start by booking a free initial 30-minute virtual session. This is time for us to get to know each other a little and for you to ask me questions. (I’ll ask you some too!) If we decide to move forward, we’ll talk logistics (scheduling, frequency, location, etc.). If we’re not a fit, I can still help you determine your next step.

Most clients prefer to meet 1-2 times per week. I typically recommend an initial commitment to attending regular sessions 1x/wk for 3 months. This gives us time to find our rythm together, and for you to start to notice how your body adapts to this practice. Those who benefit the most from this approach view it as a long-term journey, though sometimes folks just need a handful of sessions to find the direction they’r elooking for. It's not uncommon for us to continue working together for a year or more.
